Situated below the iconic holiday giant known as Italy, Malta is a small archipelago consisting of three islands, Malta, Comino and Gozo. Despite its size, Malta offers everything that you could ever wish for in a holiday escape: breathtaking views, recreational sites, historical adventures and exciting cuisines.

By area, Malta is ranked as the tenth smallest country in the world! Don’t let this land size deceive you as it played a pivotal role as the naval base for many historical powers. You will see the influence of these powers in its architecture, language and culture. Malta is so underrated that a simple post from this writer at Buzzfeed sent the whole nation into chaos.

Malta is also home to some of the most beautiful architectural structures in the world. UNESCO declared the City of Valletta, the Megalithic Temples and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum as official World Heritage Sites. You will notice the influences of the Greeks, Romans, Britons, Carthaginians and many other reigning countries in the intricacies of design and structure in these buildings.

It shouldn’t be unexpected that such a beautiful country would attract the attention of filmmakers who need a picturesque background. Malta has been the film set for many notable films such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Troy, Captain Phillips, World War Z, Assassins Creed, and Kon Tiki,

When you’re in Malta, you definitely cannot miss out on the dazzling coastline of the archipelago. Sink your feet into the white sand or wade your way into the turquoise waters of local beaches. Malta’s seaside experience does not lose to the iconic Australian beaches.

Ultimately, Malta has a lot to offer for any traveller who would like to get a holistic holiday experience. The richness of its history and pride in its country will not go under the radar of visitors as the friendly locals are proud to call Malta their home.
